FAQs

What happens in a hypnotherapy session?

A session begins with a type of talking therapy known as Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT). The aim of these discussions is to collaborate, to help you work towards finding solutions to the challenges you face, and to support you in building greater resilience to tackle whatever life may throw at you moving forward.

Then, I will ask you to get into a comfortable position either lying down or sat upright in a chair with good back support. I will play some relaxing music, and you will listen to the sound of my voice as I guide you into a trance.

How many sessions will I need?

These methods are very effective, and the typical duration is 6-8 sessions. Sessions can be booked in 50 minute timeslots.

Exceptions to this are for overcoming simple phobias (4 sessions) and stopping smoking/vaping (1 session). The 'stop smoking' session is 2 hours long, and must be booked at least 1 week in advance, to give yourself adequate time to prepare.

However, these are just guidelines. Everyone has different needs, and everyone heals at their own pace. We can say goodbye when you feel ready.

What does it feel like to be hypnotised?

During your sessions, you will experience a wonderful state of relaxation called trance.

It is a state of calm awareness. You will always know where you are, and be in full control of what you do. As I talk to you, telling you a soothing story, you may feel different sensations in your body. For example, your arms and legs may feel unusually heavy or light, or you may feel tension being released from your muscles.

How can I prepare for my first session?

Please ensure your phone is on silent, and that you are able to join the call in a location where you have some privacy. The trance part of the session is best enjoyed through headphones, because the background music includes binaural beats to help calm your mind.

You may wish to have a soft blanket to hand, and a pillow to rest your head.

How do I book an appointment?

You can contact us via phone call, text, email, or by filling in the contact form on the ‘Contact Us’ page of our website. Once you’ve reached out, we can arrange a brief Discovery Call, where we will discuss what it is you’d like to address with hypnotherapy, what you’ve already tried in the past, and how hypnotherapy can support you moving forward.

Sessions can be held online via Zoom, or in-person at The Therapy Quarters clinic in Newcastle-under-Lyme (Staffordshire, near Stoke-on-Trent). All bookings required at least 24 hours’ notice.

What if I need to cancel/reschedule my appointment?

If you are able to provide at least 48 hours’ notice, we will refund the cost of your session in full or reschedule it for you with no additional charges.

If you cancel or request to reschedule an appointment with 24 hours’ notice, we will refund the majority of the cost of your session. However, we will charge a £10 admin fee. This is to cover the cost of renting the therapy room.
